If you get individual training, then he will start with the basics like stance, throwing proper punches, foot work, bag work and things like that.

If you get with a trainer that works with a large gang of people at the same time, then you get less attention and after a short course of the basics they usually work you with timed drills in different skilled stations.

When you do step into the ring you'll be using 16oz. gloves, so don't worry about concussions. To prevent bruises always cover your face thick with Vaseline and that will help a great deal.
